Welcome Back to School!

Dear Westport Heights Parents, Guardians, and Stakeholders;

As principal, it is truly my pleasure to extend a warm and heartfelt welcome to you as we begin the 2015-2016 school year at Westport Heights Elementary School.

We have built a community within our school where students, teachers, staff, parents, and administration work together to provide an educational setting that is conducive to good learning and understanding. I am excited to share with you upcoming programs at Westport Heights this year like our new partnership with Playa Vista Elementary and LMU to begin incorporating Next Generation Science Standards in the classroom instructional program. Also, our dedicated staff has formed Professional Learning Communities to offer focused specialties such as Robotics, Coding, and Arts to our students!

In addition to all of the good teaching and learning that takes place in our school, we also have a Positive Behavior Plan to foster positive relationships with a focus on our three School Rules (Be Respectful, Be Responsible, & Be Safe), “Character Counts!” expectations, and Bucket-filling socio-emotional activities.

We believe in keeping families informed. On the first day of school, students will bring home relevant information such as the Year-At-A-Glance Calendar and the Parent Student Handbook. Any updates and additional information will be sent to you through the weekly "Wednesday Folder", and will appear on our school web page or blog (Principal’s Corner). Also, I am looking forward to starting a monthly “Chat with the Principal” to strengthen the community voice at WHES.

On the WEBSITE, you will find our new general school schedule. Please note the changes in schedule for early dismissal Wednesdays, the start, and end of the day.

To those students, parents, guardians, and staff who are new to Westport, we hope that you will quickly feel at home and become involved in the activities of our school through the Booster Parent Committee, Leadership Committee, School Parent Center and your child’s classroom program.

I can’t wait to start our wonderful school year together and see you August 18,2015

Best regards,

Jacqueline hughes
